Frequently Asked Questions

What is a PBX Phone System?

A Private Branch Exchange, or PBX, is a private multi-user telephone system often used by businesses or other organisations. PBX is basically a fancy way of saying phone system. A PBX allows companies to manage incoming calls by distributing them to different staff members or teams, allows users to call each other internally and may offer advanced features such as hold music, call parking or queueing.

What is Voice over IP (VoIP)?

VoIP is an acronym for Voice over IP or Voice over Internet Protocol. Rather than sending phone calls over traditional analogue or ISDN phone lines, VoIP converts audio into IP packets and sends them via a data network in the same way an email or web page is sent to your computer. This means a VoIP service can allow you to make and recieve phone calls wherever you have an internet connection.

Can I keep my current phone numbers?

In most cases, yes. We can port UK geographic phone numbers (that’s numbers starting 01 or 02) from most providers. If you’re currently with a large provider such as BT, Virgin Media or Gamma Telecom there should be no problems. With certain other providers it may take a little longer or is some circumstances may not be possible, but we’ll always do our best to work with your current provider. If in doubt, get in touch and we’ll be happy to check your numbers.
